Aaron's Bio
|
Aaron Mitchell is a 15-year-old entrepreneur who discovered
that he wanted to own a business after taking a business class with Will
Chatman, Jr. at the Young Men’s Educational Network (YMen) in Chicago’s North
Lawndale neighborhood. Will was his
teacher/mentor in the Afterschool Matters program that was hosted at YMen.
|
He is a sophomore at Gwendolyn Brooks College Prep High School on Chicago’s
Southside, and he is a singer, rapper and a musician who also enjoys dancing,
acting (theater) and sports.
|
Aaron played drums with the Harold Washington Jazz Band from fifth grade to
eighth grade and was Blessed to perform at the 2016 Chicago Jazz Festival right
after graduation in September of 2016.
|
Aaron has expensive tastes and told his mom that he wants to own his own
business to ease the pressure of her buying all the things that he likes.
|
Aaron also hates the violence in Chicago and elsewhere and has intelligent,
talented friends that he feels will benefit from having a safe place to hang out
and be creative and share their ideas and talents instead of hanging out on the
street, since it’s dangerous in the streets these days anyway.
|
This was his motivation for Aaron’s Spoken Word Café.
|
|
Mission Statement
|
To provide a friendly comfortable atmosphere, where the customer can receive
great entertainment by talented youth, a little food and quality service at a
reasonable price.
|
My idea is a spoken word Café that is centered around youth, but adults can also participate. It will have a performance element
where performers will do poetry, rap, sing, show art, dance or showcase whatever
artistic ability they may have.
|
I will also have food just in case someone is hungry. The Menu will consist of
sandwiches and salads and drinks mostly. I figured this idea would be good for
the youth to be a part of something positive instead of being in the streets
getting into trouble.
